A herringbone brick floor and sage pedestal sink in a room made smaller for a new mudroom

This powder room proves that a smaller footprint can still make the biggest impression in the house. To make room for a much-needed mudroom, the original layout was reduced in size — but rather than treat the space as an afterthought, KraftMaster leaned into its compact scale and turned it into a jewel-box statement room. Every surface was reconsidered, and the result is a powder room that guests remember long after they leave the party.

The design centers on a dramatic navy botanical wallpaper, printed with exotic birds, florals, and trailing greenery, that wraps floor to ceiling on all three walls and immediately sets the tone. A vintage-style pedestal sink in soft sage green plays off the wallpaper’s palette, while an antiqued brass and mother-of-pearl mirror, flanked by a pair of pleated fabric sconces, adds a layer of old-world glamour above it. Polished brass fixtures, a brass towel bar, and a herringbone-laid brick floor round out the material palette, grounding the room’s bold pattern with warm, tactile finishes. Crisp white millwork, including a deep crown detail and door and window casings, frames the space and keeps the saturated wallpaper from overwhelming the room.

What makes this transformation notable is the craftsmanship required to pull it off at a reduced footprint: pattern-matched wallpaper application in a tight, angled space, a custom-fit pedestal sink and mirror scaled to the new dimensions, and a herringbone brick floor laid to a clean, symmetrical pattern in a small footprint, all without sacrificing an ounce of visual impact. It’s a case study in how thoughtful design and precise execution can make a smaller room feel like the most memorable one in the house.
